who created mindgrid:audio?

my name is jeremiah sypult. i am a hobbyist game developer / sound designer. my credits in the gaming community include:
a song on the QUAKE II soundtrack (credited as jer sypult for track 10, "climb")
various work in COMBAT (a QUAKE III ARENA modification)
solely producing all elements of mindgrid:audio

what is mindgrid:audio?

the bulk of the project is in it's sound effects. i personally see mindgrid:audio as a 'theme' for QUAKE3, similar to a theme (possible a 'skin'?) for a program or operating system. there are some minor graphical changes in some of the textures and shaders -- mostly just logo changes. there are also some 'skins' that ive created during downtime to hone my 2D graphical skills. with everything packaged together, mindgrid:audio's modifications gives any player of QUAKE III ARENA a sweet new sound to the game (with some hidden graphical goodies to boot).

where can I play mindgrid:audio?

since using mindgrid:audio is difficult with the latest versions of quake3 which incorporate very strong cheat-prevention techniques like pure servers and punkbuster, i may or may not continue work on the pack to release an updated version.

mindgrid:audio will function on any server that is unpure when installed in to the appropriate directory, such as %quake3%/baseq3/ or a mod directory -- including team arena, which is located under %quake3%/missionpack/. the great thing that makes mindgrid:audio different from most modifications is that when it is installed as a 'theme' for QUAKE III ARENA, the elements normally used for QUAKE III ARENA are replaced by mindgrid:audio -- and this stands true for any modification that shares resources from the base game. for example, modifications like rocket arena q3a and jailbreak -- which are based mostly on core sound & texture assets from QUAKE III ARENA -- will benefit from mindgrid:audio's sound effects.

when was mindgrid audio created?

it took over a year of off-and-on development -- in between playing and finishing Ultima IX: Ascension and Zelda: Ocarina of Time -- to create mindgrid:audio outside of a fulltime job. it's first version was released on thursday, august 03, 2000; the first day of QuakeCon 2000.

why was mindgrid:audio created?

mindgrid:audio started as a simple project to update what i call the 'shared sounds' -- sounds that were used in other games previous to in QUAKE III ARENA like QUAKE and QUAKE II. from there it grew to replacing all the sound effects.

how do i install mindgrid:audio?

installation is pretty simple, actually. seeing that it has been created mainly as a 'theme' for QUAKE III ARENA, just unzip the contents to your /%quake3%/baseq3/ folder. when you see the mindgrid introduction cinematic in place of id softwares, it has been successfully installed. if you decide that you want to remove mindgrid:audio, just make a new directory beneath %quake3% called mindgrid and move the files into that directory.

mindgrid:audio is a complete sound effects replacement for the full version of QUAKE III ARENA by id Software.
